Una ditta di Memphis fa la consegna a Graceland del nuovo cancello in ferro, dove sono raffigurate delle note musicali, fabbricato dal Veterans Ornamental Iron Works di Phoenix, Arizona.
Il cancello è costato $ 1.300 a cui va aggiunta un’ulteriore spesa di $ 1.752 per il montaggio e l’ installazione di un impianto elettrico di apertura e chiusura automatica

Continuano le prove, mentre Elvis passa le sue serate al Cowboy dove incontra Lance LeGault, un cantante bianco di rythm ‘n Blues della Lousiana e amico di Red West. Nell’arco di pochi giorni Elvis viene presentato a Sandy Ferra, la figlia 14enne del proprietario del club Crossbow, a cui Elvis da appuntamento quasi subito. Anni dopo Sandy Ferra sposerà il DJ di Memphis Wink Martindale

Dopo aver completato i due eventi per la ricerca di fondi, il Colonnello scrive al neo eletto Vice Presidente Lyndon Johnson, dando la sua disponibilità e quella di Elvis per altri eventi patriottici futuri, dicendo “se questo significa usare il nostro talento o aiutare a caricare i camion”.

Elvis ianugura il suo impegno di due settimane davanti ad un pubblico annoiato e vecchio.
Tre anni dopo Elvis racconterà che “Dopo il primo show, sono uscito e ho camminato nel buio. Stavo malissimo…….. non ce la facevo a passare dove c’era gente”. Nonostante questo si innamora di Las Vegas ed è eccitato di poter vedere ed incontrare alcuni dei suoi miti tra cui Johnny Ray, un cantante melodico al quale lui stesso viene paragonato sovente. Incontra anche Liberace che è il cantante preferito di sua madre, ma che ha influenzato anche lui.
A Las Vegas, Elvis ha anche la possibilità di assistere ad alcuni altri spettacoli, tra cui quello di Freddie Bell and The Bellboys e rimane impressionato dell’ innovativa performance della nuova hit “Hound Dog”

Elvis sale sul treno diretto a Los Angeles. Insieme al gruppo che lo accompagna c’è anche Freddie Bienstock che, lungo il tragitto, fa ascoltare ad Elvis le demo delle canzoni che la Hill and Range gli ha commissionato per il prossimo film

Dopo gli accordi presi tra la RCA e i musicisti, le registrazioni della colonna sonora del film G.I. Blues, si spostano nello studio della RCA, al 6363 Sunset Boulevard.
Elvis arriva in studio alle 9 del mattino, indossando il vestito di scena e lavora fino alle 20.00.
La band è integrata dal chitarrista “Tiny” Timbrell e dal pianista Dudley Brooks, che già avevano suonato con lui nella precedente session a Los Angeles.
Parecchie canzoni di Jerry Lieber e Mike Stoller sono state tenute da parte, per motivi economici (i due autori hanno rifiutato di sottostare alle condizioni onerose, a cui sono assoggettati tutti gli scrittori di canzoni) ed Elvis è notevolmente infastidito per il materiale che gli è stato dato.
Vengono registrate le seguenti canzoni “Shoppin’ Around” “Didja Ever” “Doing The Best I Can” “G.I. Blues” “Frankfort Special” “Tonight is So Right for Love”
